Do you think it's possible to wake up in this room every morning and not be in a good mood? Oh, and did I mention it's in Paris?

I love this idea.

I've finally got some time off. Which means I finally have some time to relax. Which means I've been indulging in a little more wine than usual. Which means when I was going through my bookmarked DIY project ideas and came across this one from Readymade via Apartment Therapy I was rather intrigued. How smart is this? And if you're over the whole chalkboard thing you could do cork or wallpaper or just about anything else you can think of.

Xmas at Ikea

I like checking out the holiday decorations at Ikea every year. The stuff is at least a little different and less predictable than the usual Christmas knick knacks out there. Some of it you could almost use the rest of the year... Is that wrong?

They're just so pretty!

I haven't even started shopping for a dress for my sister's wedding, but I really think it should be something that will go with these...

I think my next place should have a fireplace.

It's really snowy in Calgary right now - we're talking Blizzard here people - and no I am not exaggerating. It's the kind of weather that really makes me wish I had a fireplace to curl up in front of. Guess I'll just have to wait a couple of weeks for the Christmas Yule log to start playing on the local cable channel. At least then curling up in front of my tv will be a bit cozier... okay, not so much.

Toys that aren't tacky.

If you have little ones to shop for you may have noticed there are a lot of cheap, badly made, and not so nice looking toys out there. These - all from Etsy - are nice and simple old-school wooden toys. Hand made, durable, and they look good - in case they maybe don't end up back in the toy box all the time.

How crazy beautiful is this Neo Baroque Chandelier? Oh yeah, it's crazy expensive too. I'm thinking that designer Abigail Ahern's book A Girl's Guide to Decorating is more within my budget - or perhaps the budget of a friend or family member wondering what to get me for Christmas. Of course, if they'd rather get me the chandelier, I'm cool with that.

I'm dreaming of a new sofa.

Crate & Barrel's Rachel Sofa

Crate & Barrel's Azure Sofa

Crate & Barrel's The Nines Sofa

EQ3's Byrd Sofa

EQ3's Tavern Sofa

I may possibly need to get a new sofa next year. (If my sister and the fiance need ours I've told them they can have it. Aren't I so nice?) Sooooo.... if I do need one, it has to be a good blend of practicality, durability, affordability and comfort - while still being stylish, of course. These could all be contenders I think.

I loved the stuff Rita Konig used to do for Domino. So nice to see she's now blogging for The New York Times. Do check it out here. (Oh, and how cute is her car?)

I never thought I could get this excited over a drywall hook.

I've been super busy setting up a showhome this week. (I may post pics when it's done - if I decide I like it. Right now it's got me feeling kind of ...meh.) Anyway, I've been using some of these drywall hooks to hang pictures. I got mine at Michaels, but you may recall the Hercules Hook infomercials? (R.I.P. Billy Mays.) These things are just so freaking genius. And they hold so much weight! The ones I got hold 50 lbs, which was all I needed, but the Hercules Hooks supposedly hold up to 150 lbs. Just so darn handy.

Living Etc Strikes Again

There's a feature on the Living Etc site of "Modern Romantic" rooms. Oooooooh.... pretty.

I guess it's called Ace for a reason.

I just came across this photo of the Ace Hotel in Portland in the November issue of Lucky. I pretty much love everything about it. Kinda quirky, kinda retro, very cool.

Damn that's a nice dresser.

image via i suwannee

As much as I love this wallpaper, I feel like it's maybe becoming a little over-used. Having said that, I can't help but fall completely in love with how it looks on this dresser!

What I like about this hotel:

The suspended glass globes. You could probably do something similar with Christmas ornaments.

Tufted leather sofa as banquette

Who wouldn't want to look at John, Paul, George and Ringo while they brush their teeth in the morning?

Pics are all from the Hotel Felix in Chicago.

Wallpaper. And some other good stuff.

images via Style at Home

This is the loft of designer Tamara Robbins Griffith and her husband. They've managed to take a very typical condo and make it very interesting. I especially like the textured wallpaper in the living room. It looks kinda like grasscloth maybe? I have had an ongoing fascination with grasscloth for several years now. Haven't actually used it yet - maybe I need to so I can get it out of my system. Or maybe it will become a bigger obsession. I guess we'll see.

This is Haus Interior in New York. I love the use of color and pattern - especially the floor! I LOVE that floor!

Marie Claire Maison

The article is of course in French, so I don't know anything about this place. But it looks to me like a real place where a real person lives - a real, and chic, and French person.

Etsy Goodness

So these pillows by hazel & hunter not only look good, they are good - hand made "from a natural cotton-hemp fabric and hand-printed with water-based color." (And the fact they're made in Canada makes them even better in my books.)
